D'banj - Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo

Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo popularly known as D'banj is a Nigerian songwriter, businessman, harmonica player and a celebrated musician, who through his great style of music took Africa by storm back in 2005.

Despite his popularity, D'banj has some how kept his private life from the media and i bet you know very little about this great musical icon.

Biography

D'banj was born into a Christian/Military home on 9th June 1980 in Zaria, Northern Nigeria and named Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo by his parents. A name he combined to for his stage name D'banj.

His father commanded an artillery unit and his Mother was a God fearing Business Woman, dignified in her Church or place of Worship but despite these upbringing, D'banj was destined to follow his own ways.

His father threw him into the Military school early, at the age of Eleven in a bid to show him his footsteps and he even went on to become a member of renowned drum corp of the Nigerian Army but had to change his school, due to environmental issues. He joined another military school “Nigerian Navy Secondary School”, Ibara Abeokuta where he finished his secondary school level.

D'banj then set his sights on his music career, which wasn't so easy to start. His Parents actually kicked against the idea, leaving him to struggle, just as most Musicians do when they set out.

He tried twice to get a University Degree but failed, first at the Lagos State University but failed to make his dream of becoming a Mechanical Engineer and secondly  when he went to the UK to further his Studies but this time found a loop hole into his Musical career in the meeting with Don Jazzy.

However, that was his life changing meeting and after that, moved back to Nigeria with Don Jazzy releasing his first track “Tonglo” blending Afrobeat and Afropop. Today he boasts five albums including No Long Thing (his debut album released in 2005), Rundown Fuck U Up (2006), Curriculum Vitae & The Entertainer (2007-2008).

He got through Mo'hits, signed to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D Music record label but that didn't last long, as Mo'hits and G. O. O. D Music got a fall out. He got luckier though, signed with Sony Entertainment Deal in 2012 and since then has also gotten his record label (DKM) and in 2017 released "King Don Come" featuring Gucci Mane, old friend and former Mo'hits colleague Wande Coal, also grabbing collaborations with Snoop Dogg, Jay-Z, and Kanye West.
