Chris Justino defeated Tonya Evinger Claiming Vacant Title

Chris Justino defeated Tonya Evinger Claiming Vacant Title
31/7/2017

Chris "Cyborg" Justino (18-1) defeated Tonya Evinger (19-6) to claim the vacant UFC vacant featherweight championship with a third round TKO just 1.56 seconds of the third round.

"I'm really happy I'm the world champion," Justino said. "It's perfect timing because I feel at the top of my career now."

The fight which was one of the three title fights at UFC 214 inside Anaheim's Honda Center saw Justino who had dreamed for a UFC title for a long time, do it the hard way by defeating Evinger (19-6), who holds a 135-pound title in all-female promotion Invicta FC.

Justino has alway finished her bouts early but she failed in this one, which showed how tough Evinger actually is. She was very technical, taking the fight slowly with patience, using her obvious speed advantage to counter Evinger's punches and kicks, repeatedly rocking her with the right hand.

Evinger at the other end, was busy trying to take down Justino which she actually succeeded to do in the first round but other takedown attempts got countered by an instant pop back and knees to Evinger's body.

The fight finish came mercifully, as Evinger toppled sideways after several knees to the midsection. She never went unconscious, but her body seemed to freeze from the damage.

Chris "Cyborg" Justino keeps dominating the women MMA since her career started in 2005 and judging from this fight, she is definitely home at UFC's 145-pound division. Which was opened this year with a fight between Germaine de Randamie and Holly Holm.

Germaine de Randamie, who won the fight reduced to face Justino, citing a drug issue she had in 2011 and this led to the striping of her title. She has now moved back to 135 pounds.

Chris "Cyborg" Justino had won 16 of 18 fights via KO and there have been no opponents in line for her. She debuted with the promotion last year but spent her first two fights cutting to 140 pounds and the only two female featherweight fights the UFC has promoted this year have been title fights.
