Lewis Hamilton had earlier Begged to be let past Bottas in other to attack the Ferrari team, who were currently leading the race, and also planning to capitalize on the Steering issues race leader Sebastian Vettel had. The request was granted in lap 46 with Hamilton promising he would let his team make back in his position, if he is unable to get past Kimi Raikkonen.

Hamilton was unable to get past the Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen due to a narrow Hungarian Circuit and according to his promise had to let his team mate back in his position with out been overtaken by Max Verstappen.

I think if I had kept my positions -- I think there were reasons to -- with the risk of the backmarkers and risked letting him back through too late, which is unnecessary when you are fighting for a championship.

"He was seven seconds behind, he had the Red Bull behind him and I had backmarkers around me so it was a little risky but I tried to wait it out and balance it."
