Real Madrid Sack Julen Lopetegui After 14 Games

Real Madrid have sacked head coach Julen Lopetegui following a 5-1 defeat to Barcelona and after just 14 games incharge of the European Champions.

Before the 5 - 1 loss to FC Barcelona away at Camp Nou, Real Madrid had failed to win a league game since September 22, losing to Sevilla, Alaves, Levante and drawing with Atletico Madrid.

Real Madrid will be temporarily headed by Santiago Solari, who was in the past temporarily favoured to take the job permanently.

Real Madrid released a statement, confirming his removal, as the club's head coach.
"This decision aims to change the dynamics of the first team, when all the objectives of this season are still achievable.

"The Board of Directors understands that there is great disproportion between the quality of the staff of Real Madrid and the results obtained to date.

"The club thanks Julen Lopetegui and all his technical team for their effort and work and wishes them the best in their professional career."
