Demetrius Andrade defended his WBO middleweight title for the third time with a ninth round demolition of Luke Keeler on Thursday evening at the Meridian at Island Gardens in Miami, Florida, live on DAZN.
Andrade, who has since expressed his interest in a super fight against Middleweight king and boxing superstar Canelo Alvarez, did his best to keep his dream on track, starting with scoring two early knockdowns but that wasn't how the fight ended as His late flurry was all he needed to force the stoppage in the ninth round.
“I went in there and thought I could put him out. So I took him out. I showed him I am not delusional. I got more knockdowns than I do fights, baby. I am entertaining. You gotta love it, I come to put on a show every time.”Andrade was charged to make a statement with the fight which sure served as a tune up to that superfight, he has since been craving for. The 31 year champ from Providence moved out to do just that, sending Keeler down to the canvas in the opening round and a then again in the second round, creating some false hope of an early ending.

Demetrius Andrade found his range in the final minute of the second round sending Keeler again to the canvas with a straight left but the Irish man didn't plan to go out that easily. he got back to his feet, beat the count and ensured that he remained on his feet through out the next round.
keeler tried his best to level the fight despite the disparity in skilll level between them, while Andrade spent most of the rounds in close quarters, looking for openings to end the fight with probabilities of finishing off the Irish man getting increasingly slim with each passing round. The first time title challenger, complimented his heart with some skill, sneaking in a couple of right hands and doing enough to ignite his crowd of Irish supporters.
Andrade with the win improved his record to 29-0 (18KOs) after picking up his earliest victory in almost four years and his second knockout victory since defeating Walter Kautondokwa via a loopsided unananimous decision to win the title. Before this win, Andrade has only knocked out Artur Akavov and since making his middleweight debut, he has only defeated two opponents via knockout.
Andrade had Keeler pinned to the ropes in the ninth round, causing an uproar among the spectators and when it seemed like the Irish-man was about to escape the danger, Andrade unloaded a flurry that no doubt spelled the end to the fight. The sequence started out with a big left hand, which left him staggering on the ropes then followed it up with a series of power shots that force the referee to intervene.
Keeler saw his eight fight winning streak get snapped just before his eyes with the loss and his record fall to 17-3-1, 5KOs
Andrade with the win is looking forward to a unification fight with any-other title holder in the division, most especially Canelo Alvarez or Gennedy Golovkin .
“I’m not giving up on that,” claims Andrade. “Eddie Hearn sent the offer and didn’t get a response. If they want to send an offer this way, we will respond. Let’s get it on, Jermall. The boogeyman is here, baby.”
