Gervonta Davis Has No Discipline & It's Getting To Him - Teofimo Lopez

Upcoming Boxing star and IBF lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez is totally focused on his unification fight with pound for pound star Vasily Lomachenko but won't say, he never noticed Baltimore Knockout artist Gervonta Davis.

Davis was handed a truckload of criticism for not stopping an injury Yuorikis Gamboa till the final round of their WBA super Lightweight title fight earlier this year and that added to the fact that he had to hit the scales more than ones to make weight for the fight at the State Farm Arena.

Lopez acknowledges the fact that Davis carries a lot of power, which also translates to his ability to knockout opponents but believes that the 24 year old isn't disciplined enough and that is all hindering him from attaining his potential.

Davis was tipped the scale way above the  IBF Junior Lightweight title fight against Nicaragua's Francisco Fonseca, which he ended up winning with an eight round Knockout. Going in overweight cost him his title despite his victory on Floyd Mayweather Vs Conor McGregor undercard.
“The only problem with Gervonta Davis is his discipline,” Lopez told BoxingScene.com. “He has no discipline. That’s what wins us fights. Obviously, it’s catching up to him. Because with Gamboa, someone that was injured from the second round on, he couldn’t do anything to him until the last round, the 12th round. It’s catching up to him, little by little. They’re putting him with guys that they have 100-percent confidence that he’ll beat, but yet he had a difficult time with someone like [Gamboa].
“Maybe he just had a bad night, but he was overweight at 135, going up in weight for the first time. And it’s a five-pound difference [from the junior lightweight division]. It’s not a four-pound difference, like when you go up from 126 to 130. It’s five pounds. You can’t even make that, you’ve got a problem. That’s a big problem. You know, that’s a big, big problem. Things like that don’t look good on your resume.”
Davis tipped the scales at 136¼ during Friday weigh-ins ahead of his fight with Gamboa but was able to go two pound lower in his second try before the fight. However, three division champion Gambia tore his Achilles tendon in the second round and eventually got dropped in the 2nd, 8th and 12th round of the fight.

Baltimore's Davis is hoping to face four division titlist Leo Santa Cruz in a date to scheduled after the Corona Virus Pandemic while, Lopez will be defending his IBF crown against WBC/WBA lightweight titlist Vasily Lomachenko in a Unification bout Ina date to be determined after their initial date April 30th got pushed backwards indefinitely due to the Corona Virus pandemic.
