Shawn Porter Picks Errol Spence To Beat Keith Thurman

Former welterweight Shawn Porter champion has a blur idea on who gave him the toughest fight of his career in Errol Spence and Shawn Porter but will be able to tell you exactly who will come out victorious, if both are to ever meet in the boxing ring.

The former two time welterweight champion has only lost to two then Undefeated champions and that particular status remains for Spence, who is now a unified titlist in the weight division courtesy of his hard fought twelve round split decision win over Porter back in September last year.

Porter with the loss against Spence, snapped a four fight winning streak which spans through 2016, when he fell short via unanimous decision in a title fight against Keith Thurman (29-1, 22KOs; 1NC) at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn .

Shawn Porter was dropped with a hard shot in the eleventh round of his fight against Spence but was able to stay on his feet throughout his 12 round loss against Thurman, though he was a caught with a big shot in the fourth and tenth round respectively.

“Both guys caught me with one punch. One big punch. I don’t know who is the harder hitter,” Porter (30-3-1, 17KOs) noted when asked to choose between the two during a live chat on the Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) Facebook page. “In the ring, when the adrenaline is going and you’re focused on your mission, you’re not thinking about that.
“I really don’t know who hits harder.”

However Porter feels that Thurman is no longer the same version he faced back in 2016, due to his numerous injuries and stay away from the ring. Before fighting twice in 2019, Thurman spent at least 8 months away from the ring before fighting and even his fight against Josesito Lopez, seemed a little too hard for the Clearwater product.

“I’d pick Spence,” Porter insists without hesitation. “Keith Thurman has been out of the ring too much. I don’t think he’s the same fighter he was when I fought him. I’d have to go with Spence.”
