(Formula One) Eric Broadley Dies At Age 89 Eric Broadley MBE (22 September 1928 – 28 May 2017) was a British entrepreneur, engineer, and founder and chief designer of Lola Cars , the motor racing manufacturer and engineering company. Eric Broadley has had great impact on Formula One And Indy 500, though only few today will know of his underground exploits in the world of racing especially in note, the Lola Cars which had been notable in the 80's and 90's Indy 500 competitions, designed and build an F1 car for John Surtees and Roy Salvadori to race in the 1962 World Championship. Indycar racing evolved into a very different story when Lola was the car to have and provided several championships and many victories for a string of drivers, including Nigel Mansell in 1993.
